Big Brave Bill started life as a bed-time story song for my two girls Daisy and Phoebe, they have been singing it for weeks now, they love it as it’s a song about a local super hero, it's important to me that they grow up with positive values about their surroundings, as this landscape will remain in their hearts and form the core of their beings.
The song has places and characters that Yorkshire folk can identify with, and people from further afield can discover!
I wrote the song in celebration of Yorkshire, Barnsley, and of course my love of Yorkshire Tea. With memories of super heroes from my childhood in mind I decided “why wouldn't there be a hero from Barnsley, we are a tough, hard working passionate people, so why not." And Big Brave Bill was born.
I am passionate about promoting this area of the country in a positive, compassionate and proud manner. Yorkshire is steeped in history and beauty and is my muse and companion, as is Yorkshire Tea! (It powers my tours)
As a patron of Yorkshire and Freeman Of the Barnsley Borough I am dedicated to spreading the word about how totally fabulous Yorkshire is and all it stands for. The new Mayor of Barnsley is having a “Positive Barnsley” campaign in her first year, and Big Brave Bill fits perfectly to celebrate that. In fact Bill had his very first outing in Barnsley Town Hall as part of my acceptance of the Freeman. Perfect.
So please, fill up your mug with the proper stuff and come along to visit Barnsley and “sup up n’ away"!!!
